Everything Is Demonic?!

I won’t name any names in this post, as I don’t know for sure if these ministries and individuals know they’re being deceptive or not. I don’t believe in slandering or libel. The Hebraic concept is “lashon hara” or the “evil tongue.” But this must be said from a place of love.

I also stopped caring about whether people think I’m crazy for believing in demonic forces a long time ago. The God of the Bible exists, therefore, everything in His word must also exist. That would mean demons are real beings. Just as angels are real beings.

If God says they exist, believe Him. I don’t care what our post-Enlightenment era says about spirituality. It is a necessary part of life.

Back to the topic….

There are deliverance ministries out there that say everything is demonic, and if you’re breathing, you probably have a demon.

Biblically speaking, demonic influence is a rare thing in this world. Most demons live far away in desolate places. “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none” (Matthew 12:43 [ESV]). There is also a man who lived in the tombs who had a demon like in Mark 5. Demons love places like this, not your everyday Denver or Los Angeles.

Not to say that demons can’t live in cities. But supernatural happenings are so rare.

Even in the Bible, we don’t find many accounts of demons.

Witchcraft often invokes demonic power and miracles, such as the Witch of Endor, raising up Samuel in a necromancy ritual.

There is an underground world where this type of stuff flourishes, but your everyday experience won’t be affected by these things most of the time.

When I see ministries that solely focus on demons, I see ministries that are solely focused on dollar signs. If a supernatural being is ruining someone’s life, you don’t need to charge money to relieve them from such a horrible experience.

I get Paul said that a laborer is worthy of their wages, and that if anyone had any right to gain monetarily from those he served, it was him, but he gave the example of being a tentmaker to fund his ministry activities.

I don’t believe selling services is a terrible thing. Far from it. But believers are supposed to sacrifice for others, so if such an influence is affecting someone, the gifts of the Spirit would make for a way to relieve them of the problem.

Jesus didn’t charge money to release people from demonic influence, and the Twelve Apostles also did not do so.

Seeing as demons are rare, to say everything attaches a demon to you is grifting.

“You watched an anime; you have a demon.”

“You walked by an occult shop; you have a demon.”

“You wore a skirt. You have a demon.”

These ministries are ridiculous. First, if they don’t understand sin is defined by breaking God’s holy Torah laws, then they make up whatever they want and say there’s a demon with it.

No one should tell you at all how to dress, what a “real” Christian should look like physically, and that you’re sinning by X, Y, or Z when those aren’t found in the Law of God. If something isn’t a sin, then you’re not attaching demons to yourself.

Not that it can’t happen, but demonic influence involves supernatural events and powers. A man unable to be bound by metal chains because he breaks them (Mark 5). Levitation, speaking in ancient languages that had never been studied, coughing up snakes, and all manner of weird stuff.

Watching an old episode of Sailor Moon or the new Superman movie is 100% not going to give you a demon.

Listening to music will not give you a demon (even black metal) in 99.9999999% of cases.

You know what will give you a demon? Actively seeking those things out and practicing witchcraft—or even opening occult doors in your life.

Being in a desolate wilderness and choosing deistic Satanism at the same time might give you a demon.

But some innocuous activity?

Hardly.

Christians need to be aware of the spiritual world. Don’t get me wrong.

But demonic activity is exceptionally rare no matter what age we live in.

These ministries out there are preying upon gullibility and fear, not to mention an ignorance of what the Torah actually says sin is.

Spiritual things are spiritually discerned, and it takes a mature mind to sort through them.

Spiritual babes see demonic activity in every little thing.

Those who have progressed to solid food know the Holy Spirit gives us power over the Enemy and his minions, so there’s nothing to fear from that side.

We should carefully vet ministries that are preoccupied with demons instead of the gospel message.

His gospel is truth, even when men and women lie.

Seek and know His truth and you won’t be fooled by snake oil preaching.

May your days be blessed forevermore in Christ.
