A Short Thought on Truth and Vengeance
Sometimes truth is hard to support. It’s not always popular. It’s not always glamorous to take the side of those who are biblically in the right.
But should that stop us?
Absolutely not!
Look.
Things can be hard in this life.
I personally don’t like wars.
But wars are necessary to inhibit injustice sometimes.
Israel and Gaza are a notable example of a tough subject.
But the common narrative makes no sense.
If Israel were trying to commit genocide, besides the fact that they could be done in an afternoon, wouldn’t they attack their ally, Jordan?
Jordan is almost 70% Palestinian.
Yet Jordan and Israel are strategic allies.
So, the narrative makes little sense.
If Israel were trying to commit genocide on the Palestinians, why leave Jordan alone?
Jordan holds most of them.
It makes no sense.
I must admit I find the war that was occurring in Gaza to be tragic. I don’t like kids being killed at all.
But Hamas needed to be destroyed. Their entire goal is to end Jews and Christians.
We can’t let talking points and propaganda shape our worldviews.
I follow people I don’t agree with because I don’t want to be in an echo chamber.
The ICE situation is also something of a contention.
I support LEGAL law enforcement efforts.
What I don’t support is murder.
The recent situation with Alex Pretti is a situation I CAN’T defend.
You don’t shoot someone in the back ten times after OC spraying them for helping another person and have that be just.
I pray the Trump administration removes those officers from service.
This is not okay.
The world is so tense right now.
I can’t imagine Jesus would be fine with some of the things both sides of issues say about each other.
Vengeance belongs to the LORD, not us.
Saying horrible things about leftists is just as bad as their tactics against us.
Those tactics are not justified anymore because you believe you’re on the right side.
Regardless of side, both tactics are mistaken.
I’m not on the left, but I’m also not on the right. I’m more of a classic liberal with libertarian sympathies. The left stole the word liberal from what it really means, people who stand for individual freedoms.
I’m someone who supports LGBT individuals because despite what conservatives say, they have as many rights as we do.
We must stop this left vs. right dynamic.
That’s exactly what they want from both sides.
If we’re at each other’s throats, we won’t be able to stand up for true freedom.
Stop defending a side because they are “your side.”
Wrong is wrong.
Yahweh gets to decide vengeance, not us as individuals.
We’re supposed to shine the light of Christ in this world.
That means not siding with the ways of the world or choosing something just because our politics align with it.
Jesus is above the discourse of this world.
Our side is not based on what our secular beliefs align with.
Let’s understand each other better.
I don’t agree with everything someone else believes, but does that make me better, morally superior, or right because they believe differently?
No.
Our purpose is to shine Christ’s light in this current evil age.
Let’s do better than petty sides and understand the world is complex.
May the LORD help us in this endeavor.
Shalom.
