A Quick Thought on Humility
Humility and keeping a lower profile are of the utmost importance in our walk with Christ.
Not that having accomplishments or nice things is negative, but the Bible places a far greater emphasis on diminishing our egos and pride for the benefit of other people.
Folly is the best friend of those who don’t seek biblical wisdom in their endeavors and everyday life.
When the King of the Universe washed the disciples’ feet, it was a grand reversal that resonated throughout the millennia. How could the King of Glory debase himself so? What manner of man was it that would do such a thing when He was a king?
But that’s the thing about how God works. If you want to be the greatest in the kingdom, you must humble yourself as a little child. The LORD is our guide, and He guides us to determine within our lives that His ways are higher than the ways of the world.
Jesus showed us what serving others looks like in action through His actions.
He even said if they didn’t let Him wash their feet, they would have no part with Him.
Jesus is the name above all names and highly exalted because He suffered on behalf of the lost and wayward humans He loves so much. He took on the humiliation of the cross, bearing the pain we all deserve for breaking God’s commandments.
Now, He is highly exalted over everything in this universe and beyond it. God’s pattern is always suffering before exaltation. That’s just how He works.
Don’t think you’ll never go through trouble in this life.
If they persecuted Christ, they would persecute you without a second thought.
Following Jesus isn’t always glamorous, and it makes people hate you for no reason sometimes.
Walking in the light and shining might make others feel exposed, or they may simply despise all things good.
Remain humble in all circumstances, keeping a level head about where you stand. God’s grace saves us, which is better than we ultimately deserve.
But let’s not get puffed up and proud of anything in our walk.
If God blesses you with a mansion, there’s no need to feel higher than others because of it.
People might misunderstand you and what you stand for, but that is no excuse for treating them as less than you because of how “spiritual” you are compared to them.
It is the humble among humanity who are the examples of what walking in Christ looks like.
Again, I’m not saying having nice things is negative. After all, even Jesus in the First Coming of Christ showed His glory and miracles occasionally. But it wasn’t the focus of His ministry at all. There is nothing wrong with glory, but flaunting glory is in bad taste.
Remain committed to serving others with your gifts and abilities and think of others as better than yourself always.
Just a quick thought as the week restarts.
Shalom!
