Novel Ideas or Novel Ideas?

I’ve got some novel ideas for my long-running series plans. Which did he mean? I won’t tell.

But there are things I want to do with my Orchestrylus Odyssey series that require a long-spanning plan of the ages.

First comes the discoverability factor. A series can be hotter than flame, but the discoverability needs to be there. For indies, that’s around 20 or so books (so I’ve heard, anyway).

For traditional publishers, that’s writing a book so good that no one can reject it. A hard ask, of course, but it can be done.

But you really must believe in yourself and your work. If you don’t believe in it, why should anyone else?

I want to get to a point where I can tie music into my novels, because it is a musical series and a poetic series. I’d like to have albums written to go alongside the novels, like movie soundtracks for books.

That might sound like a pipe dream to some, but the positive thing is, I don’t smoke anything. So, no pipe dreams here, meaning this is attainable.

It might not be on the timeline most people would like, but I’m willing to wait decades to get this story out there to the masses if that’s what it takes.

Giving up is not an option. For anything.

Are there multiple branching paths? Of course!

But Path A isn’t necessarily it, or Path B, maybe not even all the way to M or N.

Maybe the right path is path L, and then it diverts to paths beyond S toward the end?

I’d say we often go through the whole alphabet before we strike the right path.

I’m willing to go from A-Z if that’s what it takes to get my characters and worlds out there.

My goals are my dreams, and dreams ARE possible, if only we’d believe in them. The Prince of Egypt has a song called “When You Believe.” And there can be miracles when you believe. I know Mariah Carey has been defrosted for the season, but that’s an excellent song about believing anyway, no matter what. It’s a throwback jam from one of the greatest animated movies ever made.

I know I’m old. I’ve been hearing the new generation thinks twenty-five is old, so what does that make me at thirty-five?

But even if the things I want to accomplish take my hair going gray in spots, I’m willing to wait to get this story out there.

That’s the type of patience a writer needs, or any artist, really. Some people hit their stride in their 40s.

Leslie Nielsen was obviously known more for his roles later in his life.

I want to put a unique twist on this set of my writings where there is an accompanying soundtrack to the series.

That’s not something done for books outright. You have author soundtracks, and you have novel-inspired retellings, but not something that is built upon the framework from the outset.

I imagine a tear-jerking film score moment in book sixteen that would be perfect if there was a lyrical song playing for that moment.

Songs have the capacity to tell stories far grander than other forms of art.

One day, God willing, I’d like to get an anime adaptation or game series made.

But remember. I don’t smoke pipes, so there are no pipe dreams here.

I believe in my ability and believe in the God who made me.

God willing, I’ll wake up to the dream, not from one.
