A Whimsical Realism Novel

Novel ideas are amazing things, sometimes coming out of the depths of the creative mind, other times coming from somewhere magnificent that probably can’t be described with human words.

The idea I have for another novel—which will be released in spring 2026 without a formal release date—is based on a dream I had where gorgeous insects were blooming in the spring, and flowers raced across the fields.

The novel called The Fabric Heart of Kimana Meadow is based on the notion of butterflies that bloom and flowers that fly about. The name of the novel is a bit of a puzzle of how I came up with it. What does a fabric heart have to do with butterflies and a meadow?

One might think that Kimana Meadow is a name rather than a place, and that’s exactly what I want for this book. It’s intriguing in a way that makes you wonder if it is a place or a person’s name.

I won’t spoil the plot, other than to say it will be a magical realism book that will bend the laws of all-known physics in a single person’s life. The main character is a young woman who comes to understand through a series of metaphysical events that she is worthy of love. There will be lots of little clues and puzzle pieces scattered about that careful readers will pick up on that will expand the story’s lore.

I’ve dabbled in magical realism a bit in a couple of my stories, namely A Knight Stained Black where some wacky things happen in a setting that I’d like to flesh out further (as originally intended last year) if writing chess wasn’t so one-note.

Surrealism is perfect for the stories I write.

I’ve always believed there are magical sides of existence within our own world, just begging to be explored. Obviously, I don’t mean you can whip out a wand and cast a Patronus Charm—but there is a certain charm or magic to create in our lives and in impacting others. Not to denigrate other types of weird things in this world. I believe strongly in tales of ghosts, demons, the occult, miracles, and all manners of the underworlds of society that most people don’t think for two seconds about. It comes with the territory of being a Christian (however unorthodox I might be on some issues).

This novel will explore the relationship between a trio of friends and what it means for someone else to touch your life positively, but in an actual magical way.

I want the story to say that you are worthy of love, no matter who you might be.

Hopefully, it doesn’t take a magical meadow—where things are peculiar—to understand what I’m saying.

But since art forms such as writing allow us to explore the human condition in-depth, art will speak for itself and hopefully open someone’s heart to the potential for receiving love and finding that truth in their own life.

This writing thing is spectacular.

I’m going to keep going no matter what.
