Men in Decline, or Overcome the Odds?
I just watched Asmongold’s “Men Are in Decline” video and have a few thoughts on the matter.
Asmongold usually has balanced takes on things—but I don’t always agree with his viewpoints, this being one of those cases.
He asserts the viewpoint that men today have given up because the system is rigged against them. There seems to be no reward for working hard, for trying to start a family.
They have no ability to marry a wife because the society is skewed to favor women.
Even if that were the case, from a biblical standpoint, a man should never give up because things “got hard.”
“In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty” (Proverbs 14:23 [ESV]).
In all work, there is something to gain. Mere talk leads only to poverty, and Solomon is correct here. This can mean two different things.
Sitting there, moping and complaining that everything is rigged against you is negative talk, and leads to nothing.
There’s nothing wrong with having a dreadful day or even a dark time. We all have those. But to sit in a defeatist mindset because you don’t want to put in the work necessary to make something of yourself isn’t ideal either.
I get what Asmongold is trying to say, but becoming NEET is not the solution. This is a term that means “Not in Education, Employment, or Training.”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t think there’s a single woman out there that would find this desirable. So, of course, those young men will run into trouble.
Asmongold is famous for sticking to the indoors, and that’s how he made his money. That’s great for him.
But this behavior—apart from streaming and monetization—does not lead to anything beneficial.
Like the Nightmare of You song “The Days Go by Oh So Slow,” said, “If you’d rather stay in at night, I can relate to that.”
Some people like being at home. That’s fine.
But that doesn’t bode well for finding a long-term partner or fixing the situation of not having opportunities.
Giving up is losing the fight.
In a war, you don’t give up unless you’re surrendering to the opposition. That’s the end of the war, sure, but you’ve lost.
Also, the Bible tells us to work, and to not be lazy about our work.
If you don’t work, neither should you eat, as Paul said.
In the same vein, if you don’t work to improve yourself, you won’t find an amazing woman to spend your life with.
Giving up is not the answer. The Greatest Generation knew hardship, war, and problems. They fought for freedom and made the odds work for them.
The American Revolution also gave us the steps toward our modern, democratic republic. Those men fought hard to win our freedoms, as many servicemen and women still do.
Can you imagine what life would be like now if that had never happened?
We’d be under the monarch of England, living under a kingship.
Monarchy might sometimes have great kings, but republics are freedom to the people themselves.
By the people and for the people is the opposite of having a fallible human king.
Our modern era just wouldn’t exist without men stepping up and working hard to ensure the future of the next generations.
Asmongold mentions Andrew Tate (who raped and abused women as a fact now) as a role model to these men. I agreed with Asmongold’s take that we shouldn’t treat women like trash, and that his lifestyle as a shut-in streamer isn’t something to look up to, but men feeling as though society has “betrayed” them is no reason to not try at all.
He mentions an example of not wanting to go out of his way to be a positive force in society when society has done nothing but become a negative force against him.
But that’s ludicrous to me.
Jesus came to free us, keep us from the oppression of sin and mankind. He was a positive force against the status quo of evil governments, evil religious leaders, women being seen as lesser creations than their equal worth (with a subject role in marriage still being God’s design), and so much more.
The Samaritan woman was treated as a dog, yet Jesus said of her faith that it was greater than most.
If society is treating men like dogs, then follow the example of Jesus and shine your light into this world.
We are all to be salt and light.
In the video, Asmongold also mentions seeing himself as an animal that must do what it must to survive.
We are not animals. We are God’s creations.
To have the negative mindset, the view that there is no opportunity anymore isn’t true.
He mentions good points, but being damaged isn’t our last stop on the railroad tracks.
But I noticed he said, “These people used to be me.” He even admits things can change.
The cards are not stacked against anyone in Christ.
Christ sets us free to become all we were meant to be with the gifts He has given to us.
He has much empathy, but a secular mindset about the world, which is sad to see.
These are just a few thoughts I had since this video came across my feed this Sabbath morning.
May the LORD enrich your Sabbath (whether you keep Saturday or Sunday).
