Focus on the Gospel Message, not Being Anti-Anything
Christians worrying about certain identity politics should probably kick the can down the road a bit.
I say this as someone who has grown tired of the anti-woke narratives of recent memory as much as some have grown tired of “woke.”
To quote an ancient man’s wisdom on this topic, please ruminate on this quote.
“‘So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!’ So they took his advice” (Acts 5:38-39 [ESV]).
In these passages, the great teacher Gamaliel challenges people to understand that if a movement arises from God, then nothing they can do will stop it. If it is not from the LORD, then it will fail.
Why spend our time fighting anti-woke narratives and art when God is ultimately the one who decides if something will succeed or fail?
Conservatives are hasty to diminish anything that looks like progress or change, sometimes to their benefit, other times to their detriment.
Leftists are quick to eschew anything that looks too “old” or traditional.
Let’s have a balance in all things, please.
It’s easy to throw stones, but what if you realized both sides live in a glass house?
I find Christians who are too anti-woke to be on a crusade that is meaningless, because if the movement they are against has any merit, God will allow it to stand.
If not, then God will do the “supposed” job you’re thinking you’re supposed to do for you.
If it does not stand, then it will fizzle out, and public support will dry up.
Our focus should be on the gospel of Christ. Not petty identity politics.
The gospel message shows us that the kingdom of God is coming, and it will replace all the kingdoms of men.
Christians should do better than trying to “fix” everyone for perceived threats to that considered conservative.
Besides, conservatism isn’t always biblical.
For example, if you saw two women kissing down the street on a walk, you’d be mistaken to dismiss it because the Torah makes no such prohibition.
I don’t make the rules.
God does.
Stick to what the text of the Bible actually says, and learn from Gamaliel’s example to us as believers who walk this walk.
If something is from God, it will succeed. If it is not, then it will fade away and not be remembered in any significant manner.
Let’s spread the gospel message. Teach people to repent and come to Christ.
Do not have a self-indulgent judgment fest when God is the ultimate judge of all things.
Just a short thought today, as the battle for culture rages on.
Shalom and blessings!
